Felted Hearts

felt heart

Here is an opportunity to make felted hearts - just in time for Valentines Day! They could be flat or 3-D with space to fill with lavender or sweets. You could also use them on a card. Small, large or a combination of sizes. There should be time to make several different ones in the evening. This is suitable for both experienced and complete beginners.

Felted Berets

three berets

A classic hat for you to enjoy making and wearing! Have a go at making a beautiful beret from wool fibres - adding some silk fibres for lustre if you choose.

Black and White II

Such a lot of opportunities present themselves when working with just black and white wool fibres. Blending, mark making, drawing are all aspects that will be experimented with in this workshop. We will begin this session with blending and piecing. This follows on from the first Black and White workshop but it is not necessary to have attended that one.

Free Edged Vessels

free edged vessel from above

A chance to try out making felt vessels from wool fibres with open free edges at the top opening. Using loose wool fibres and prefelts you will construct an open topped vessel. There will then be opportunities to experiment with your own ideas after constructing the first vessel. As with many aspects of felt making there are a multitude of choices you can make to create very different vessels from the same starting point.

Felted Flowers and Bangles

orange flower

Work with loose wool and silk fibres to make delicate flowers which can be used in many different ways. Try out a medium sized flower and then extend the technique to smaller or larger flowers depending on what you may want to use them for. Learn one method of making bangles too and discover some of the variations!

3-D Exploration

tailed vessel

This is for people who have had a little experience of making 3-D items such as small vessels. There are so many ways to extend the techniques used to make other 3-D objects. These might be larger or more complex vessels, bags or tea cosies!

Wall Piece

detail from Afghanistan Inspiration

We will look at the construction of wall pieces and you will be able to design and make a small wall piece. It could incorporate pockets or flaps, be a design or picture. Once you have considered some of the technical aspects you just have to decide what direction you want to take!

Felt Improvers

Here is the chance to consolidate your felting practice. Remembering all the different things you have tried can be hard unless you have a chance to go over the techniques again. Come with your ideas of things to try out or be inspired by the resources on show.

If you are a beginner to felt making, you are also welcome to come and learn for the first time some of the techniques of felt making.
