Working with wool fibres is very exciting - to witness the transformation of fibres into material with just the application of soap and water is wonderful. There is almost a magical dimension to it. The images on this website show some of the huge variety that is possible using different wools sometimes combined with other fibres such as linen and silk.
I am currently working on a series of vessels that are fragile in appearance, made from wool fibre and a range of other fibres such as silk, linen and cotton. In addition to the vessels, I am also working on long and narrow pieces that can be displayed in many different ways depending on the context. For example, the image on this page is of a spiral hanging which is approximately 2.5m long.
My background was not in the arts but in mathematics - this may account for my obsession with the way line, area and form interact. I have, however, always been making things from fibres and textiles. I tend to work with a restricted palate for much of my art work, only branching out into more colourful pieces for the accessories that I make - such as bags, wraps and gauntlets.
